as usual, it comes in the form of music
-warning: egoistic ramblings ahead-
all things aside, it is undeniable that it is extremely.. encouraging? uplifting? to hear my usually critical piano teacher comment
1) that i had a lot of improvement with ravel's sonatine! he said that the transitions between sections was "beautifully executed" and i caught him by surprise with the complete change in tonality. ^^
2) on my rendition (and i thought i screwed it T_T) of bach's italian concerto, "a lot of improvement blah blah la-di-da-dah and i think *laughs* you play it a lot better than many 1st year performance majors i know"
yay =] i shall refrain from becoming complacent. must work harder!! i still slip up too much T_T i think he was referring to the overall feel of it, and he kindly overlooked my numerous technical mistakes...
my chopin etude is still hopeless. T_T he was like, "some parts of it are REALLY great, but you're just slipping up too much" and i'm just literally making the T_T facial expression at him. chagrined? hmm dunno ><"
and hadyn sonata... *shudders*
stupid double stops ><" i can never, ever, ever get them right. although supposedly i play with much more direction and better defined phrasing. but still, it's so muddy it's disgusting T_T
ooh and he did compliment me on my nocturnes, but i forgot what he said, so nvm T_T
and
3) he said that out of all his students, i'm the best sightreader. YAY!
shall credit it to the countless times i've had to sightread my way through accompaniment pieces for choir and senior jazz ensemble. ESP senior jazz, because the senior jazz ppl can sightsing, so we run through so much repertoire. a one hour practice, we can run through like 3 new songs and then occassionally there's a song that everyone likes and they'd take note of that so that next time when there's a performance or something we can work on it further. so yup, it's freakish, trying to keep up with them and sightread through the song and not ruin it or stop T_T and it helps, because oh-my-gosh it took me eons to get used to the syncopation and everything. i used to have to silently tap my toes to get it right. now it comes naturally, yay =]
er, shall stop being ego already.
argh, i'm like failing academically now T_T bleah.
REALLY NEED TO START STUDYING FOR TRIALS!
note: START = I HAVEN'T STARTED. argh i suck T_T
