and so i dropped physics!

before i blog about that just want to rejoice that
OMIGOSH THERE SEEMS TO BE SO MUCH LESS WORK THIS WEEK!
perhaps because i've already finished reading both novels (for english and eng extension) and maths isn't as confusing anymore (so i don't spend half as much time on it) XD
yay!! finally really settling in - know where all the teachers can be found, know where all my classes are (and pretty much know my timetable), know all the rules and is not referred to as "newbie" as often XDDD XP
and so really thank God for watching over me during this time and guiding me and yup!!! =] =] ^^
dropping a subject is highly irritating
first must bring in note from parents
give to deputy principal
then deputy principal gives me an "orange form"
which has to be signed by head teacher of secondary studies, head teacher of subject being dropped (who is also my class teacher *coughcough*), year advisor, careers advisor, class teacher, and then it has to be brought back to the deputy who then signs it and runs off my new timetable for me. (and i'm not allowed to stop going to physics until i get my new timetable)
blah. and i didn't bring physics textbook ytd, and i didn't know that class teacher could only sign AFTER i returned textbook, so yes, hmmmmmm but YAY TOMORROW IS MY FIRST DAY IN WHICH I HAVE A FREE PERIOD! YAY XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
and it's quite amusing that every single teacher has "advice" to give.
everyone agreed that 14 units were wayyyyyy too much (esp since i was "new" *coughcough*)
but there were 2 distinct opinions
head teacher of secondary studies (who happens to be an art teacher): hmm so what subject are you dropping? physics? ahhhhhh you've finally seen the light dear! congrats!
me: *coughcough*
HAHAHAHAHAHA
careers advisor didn't say much except enquiring what courses i would want to do in uni (and made sure i didn't want to pick up engineering *coughcough* but reassuring me that there ARE bridging courses in uni if i DID happen to change my mind, but i don't think i will)
physics teacher acted "pissed" that i dropped physics w/o even considering dropping music (WHY ARE YOU GOING TO MUSIC?!) and had to endure one whole lesson of "teasing" today after which the whole class knew that i was dropping physics. dots! T_T
she saw me walking into class today and was like, "elaine! you're still here!"
me: "i didn't bring my physics textbook ytd rmb... T_T T_T" (she was the one who refused to sign. dots)
her: "why didn't you return it this morning then? AHA, i bet you're just finding some excuse to stay longer in physics"
me: "... i had eng ext this morning XP"
-later on during the lesson-
physics teacher asks a qn (bleah sry that i have to keep referring to her as "her" or "physics teahcer", don't know how to spell her name T_T) and out of habit (and just so happened i knew the answer) i answered it. then she was like
"yup! hmm, don't you all agree that elaine SHOULDN'T drop physics since she gave us the right answer?"
me: ...
and then she was asking for the physics prac report to be handed in (which was assigned before the weekend, which i had finished before i had decided whether i wanted to drop physics or not) and so since i did it i handed it in. and she commented
"look! elaine's dropping physics and she STILL DOES HER HOMEWORK! who agrees with me that she really does NOT want to drop physics" *coughcoughcough*
australian teachers and their love of their subject. *coughcoughcough*
but, seriously, i really think i'm doing the right thing.
small things seem to be showing it (although some may call me "superstitious")
like i was worried about this physics supplementary exercise book that all of us in the class had to order (and which i also ordered as well) and wondering what i was going to do with it, and now it turns out that someone in another class who just got back from hols (wow) wasn't back in time to order it and needs the exercise book so YAY it all works out. =]
and after a lengthier discussion with my dad, he agreed that dropping physics was the best course of action. we consulted the requirements of entry to all the various courses in uni, and basically, besides engineering, nothing actually requires physics - most of them just state Chemistry, and physics OR bio. and then there's a whole lot of courses that requires bio. so yup.
and, bearing with a bit of indignance on my part...
honestly, if i was going to do the subject combination which would give me the best mark, i'd have chosen physics. not to say that i think it's easy or anything (yes it IS more difficult than bio), but firstly, it has a much higher scaling than bio in the HSC (which kind of means if you get the same raw mark in physics as you get in bio, the scaled mark for physics would be higher than bio) and secondly, i always did better in physics. in physics, understanding matters more than simply memorising facts. AND i am doing ext maths, which apparently goes very well with the physics HSC course (or so everyone says)
but i have my reasons for choosing bio. yup... XP which i think matters more than simply "doing well", because by now, to me grades are nothing more than to get into the uni course i want (which is actually a lot *coughcough* but yes, as in from now onwards, it would just be stupid to do a subject simply because it's easy, or that it's slack, or that you get good marks for it or stuff)
i always hated memorising with a passion. but oh well, might as well start now XDDD
i'm glad for everyone's concern and advice, it's greatly appreciated =] ^^
haha XDDD
and OH, at the end of physics, it was recess, and i was slow to pack up, and so physics teacher went
"anyway elaine, hope you weren't offended by my joking just now!"
me: "haha no not at all XDDDD"
her: "yup, i'm just worried you're not making the right choice and you'll regret it!"
me: "nahhh, i thought a lot about it, and i love music, and i thought that i'd never want to go into engineering, and bio is more coherent with what i'm aiming to do in the future, so yup =]"
her: "well, as long as you're sure about what you want to do, then you're making the right choice. 14 units IS insane, and you were wise to drop a subject. just sad that it's physics. oh well, all the best! and see you around school some other time"
me: "XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD thanks! bye! =]"
and i am sure. and i feel JOYFUL XDDD (what a weird word... but i shall explain another time XP)
