- Tuesday, September 27, 2011 -
I've been reading Bonhoeffer's "Life Together", and was really convicted by his exhortation to be spending time each day meditating on God's word, where one selects a short passage and reflects on it and prays according to it.
So since I'm reading through both Kings and Psalms I was like, ok, today I'm going to read, pray, and then set aside time to 'meditate' on a verse that really speaks to me. After I read Psalm 42 I decided to meditate on v1-2, 11; but halfway I got distracted and my mind started wandering. It felt like I wasn't really getting anything out of it, and I was like, oh wait, I remember I have this calendar with a bible verse for a day, maybe that will help me meditate better! So after spending 5 min looking for it, I find it, turn to September 27, and this is what I find,
"As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When can I go and meet with God?"
Psalm 42:1-2 NIV
Mere coincidence? I think not. And quieting my heart once more, my eyes were opened again to the refreshing, beautiful, sweet life that is found in God, and the respite He provides from the dryness, stress and worries of this life that ultimately leads to death.
